Meet Scott Cuthbertson

Career Tested

Scott’s professional career has been defined by a commitment to finding long-term solutions, building community, and fostering durable relationships. While earning his undergraduate degree at BYU, Scott fell in love with Utah’s unmatched outdoor recreation and warm people. Following BYU, he received graduate degrees from Georgetown University and the University of Oxford in finance and business. 

Scott began his career as a management consultant working for Booz Allen Hamilton and PwC. At PwC, he built a national practice with a focus on innovative public private partnerships, and advised organizations on transformative programs and major capital projects. He learned how to navigate difficult stakeholder conflicts and forged win-win relationships to deliver results.

As COO of The Point Utah Scott helped create a nationwide model for building mixed-use communities that feature multi-modal transportation, housing attainability, open space, and integrated educational opportunities while prioritizing economic growth and sustainability. The Point is now forecasted to create thousands of jobs and bring tens of billions of dollars into Utah’s economy and serves as an example of Scott’s perspective on approaching growth in a way that prioritizes quality of life. 

Scott now serves as President & CEO of the Economic Development Corporation of Utah (EDCUtah). At EDCUtah, Scott is the face of Utah to businesses nationwide looking to invest and create jobs in the Beehive state. He has built relationships with hundreds of businesses and partnerships with dozens of municipalities and state government leaders in Utah. Scott is focused on shaping Utah’s future growth in a thoughtful way while promoting local control and preserving our quality of life.

Dedicated to Service

Throughout his career, Scott has worked to volunteer his time and energy to benefit Utah communities, nonprofits, and businesses. As a member of the Unified Economic Opportunity Commission, he works tirelessly with state and business leaders to formulate innovative policies and practices that positively impact the future of Utah’s economy. He is a former advisory board member for Salt Lake’s Housing Trust Fund, offering valuable insights and expertise on the challenges of housing attainability.

Scott also serves as a board member or committee member for some of the most impactful organizations in our community, including: the South Valley Chamber, Salt Lake County Chamber, World Trade Center Utah, Northern Utah Economic Alliance,  Urban Land Institute, the Utah Aerospace and Defense Association, Visit Salt Lake, Wasatch Front Regional Council, and the American Institute of Constructors.

Committed to Community

Scott is proud to have made District 15 home, along with his wife Christina and their three daughters. Christina previously served on the arts council for Cottonwood Heights, is a former Miss Utah, and is a public policy professional. Their family is committed to fostering community and civic engagement for District 15.

In their free time, they enjoy the many sites of District 15 – from tacos at Lone Star Taqueria and ice cream at Handel’s, to spending time in the canyons skiing or hiking. District 15 is one of the best places in Utah to live and raise a family.
